Saturdays are for shopping right? So it's perfect that one of the items on We Love Brighton's things to do is #4. Shop in The North Laine. Admittedly we have strolled in and around here on an almost daily basis, seeing as our awesome accommodation is just around the corner, but a sunny day seemed perfect to document our shopping experience. Just look at that bright blue sky!
Now anyone who knows Tamara or Erin would know that they can't walk two metres without stopping to look into a shop window or squealing in delight over shoe displays. In fact, we can guarantee that their naturally loud Australian voices have carried over the Brighton breeze numerous times in overly enthusiastic exclamations of excitement, much to the Britt's horror we're sure. Possibly the best moment was after a day of wandering through Snooper's Paradise, and buying cute pieces from To Be Worn Again, when Erin and Tamara paused for a moment:
ERIN: I am soooo hungry right now!
TAMARA: I want cake.
ERIN: I want a pastry. I smell pastry.
TAMARA: (pointing behind Erin to the Cornish Pasty shop) Do you want a pasty?
ERIN: Gah! I do! I do!
Erin didn't get a pasty because she had pizza in the fridge at home, but Tamara did get a cake. From Iydea of course, which we have mentioned in a previous post.
The array of unique shops in the North Laine is amazing, over 400 different eateries, entertainment places and independent boutiques apparently! We've already spent hours looking through music stores, book stores and vintage shops. Robert has caught a few movies at Komedia (the cinema with the sexy legs) and we've grabbed some grub at a few places. The burgers at Gourmet Burger Kitchen are Erin's favourite so far, and we've tasted a fair few. The lasagne at Pinocchio comes highly recommended from Robert, Tamara rates Infinity Foods, and Tyler can't stop raving about Small Batch coffee - the lemon meringue's are damn tasty from there too! All in all, I think we've clarified that we are all thinking about food all the time. It must be the cooler weather (excuses, excuses).
The shop fronts are all quirky, with each store spilling over onto the pathways with their offerings to entice any passers by. Bargain boxes of books for a pound, sale racks of pre-loved hawaian shirts (not quite sure how there are so many f these in Brighton?) and pub tables full of locals and visitors having a bite and a pint.
There are still so many shops for us to explore in this area. Plus the gin, the breakfasts and the vegie lunches. There's also all the shows happening at Otherplace that we don't want to miss, and their bar is good for a drink and company. Erin has yet to buy more shoes, Tamara is deliberating between a hat from Mad Hatters or a hat from Snoopers Paradise, Tyler wants to spend more time in the bookstores and Robert has to see more movies! We hear there is also a 'paint your own' pottery shop somewhere in the North Laine too - maybe this should be on the list? Mind you, lugging a vase home won't be easy with all our instruments! Maybe we'll stick to books.
